At this point you want to say to July: “Is it safe to come out now?” Politicians, media, social media continue to pit us against one another. I stopped watching the news a long time ago because it isn’t news, it’s opinion based “journalism” that doesn’t care if you believe what they are saying or not just as long as you watch. (By the way, this goes for all the cable “news” channels.) It still amazes me that we continue to put profit before people and that somehow our economy will never recover from all of this. They all need a lesson, or a refresher on the history of the American Economy. We as Catholics though, must move beyond all these humanly hang ups. We have been given a great gift of faith and hope, and that all lives in the Heart of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

In our Gospel reading this weekend, we hear Jesus telling different parables. All of these really focus on taking the easiest and quickest way to growth. Not focusing on how things are supposed to grow, but when people try to take short cuts on growth. My favorite line in this reading is: “The seed sown among the thorns is the one who hears the word, but then the worldly anxiety and the lure of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit.” It amazes me how His words that He spoke 2000 years ago are still very relevant today. We are such a worried generation and the further we move away from Christ the more worried we become. That type of worry is very dangerous as it causes so much grief and depression. When we try to control everything our plans become nothing, and we spiral even more out of control. We must, especially during this time, place our trust in God, and from this the seeds of hope and faith begin to grow! As the beautiful phrase states: “Let go and let God.” Have a wonderful and faith-filled week!
