First, Alaina and I would like to wish all of you and yours a very Merry Christmas! What a wonderful Christmas Day we had celebrating the birth of our Lord with our daughters and family! I want to thank everyone once again for all of the Christmas cards and gifts that you gave me. The generosity of this parish community never ceases to amaze me! I am so blessed to be on this journey with each and every single one of you! Keep the Christmas Spirit going in your homes and personal lives as we get ready for the new year! This World needs your witness of living a life with Jesus Christ at the center of it!
Such a powerful Gospel reading this weekend. Saint Joseph sets an incredible example for us to live by when he takes his new family and escapes to Egypt to avoid the attacks of Herod. What is so fascinating to me is that Joseph is not quoted in the Bible. He never says a word…He just obeys the Word of God. He silences himself to receive this Word, and never questions what God is asking of him. He just “goes.” It would have been easy for him to leave the situation of this newborn child that is not his and go on about his life. However, instead of abandoning God’s Word, he “goes” and obeys the commands given to him by the angel. Joseph is an amazing example of strength and courage, and his life can be the perfect blueprint for us as we move into a new year. This Christmas Season let us silence ourselves to hear God’s calling for our lives, and let us make 2020 our best year yet! Happy New Year
